My mac has been stuffing up lately. It all started a few months back - SEPTEMBER. The machine would intermitently switch off. It should also go into SLEEP mode.. but it stays asleep forever.... sometimes i can revive it, sometimes not.
Ok - to make a long story short, last Tuesday, i took it to a MAC store in STANFORD. They took it away and ended up replacing the BATTERY (a recall was called on SONY battery 15" powerbook), the logic board, and top cover? hmmm, practically everything, keke good thing they didnt touch the hard drive cos i had lots of stuff on the computer. The computer was apparently overheating - hence shutdown. Anyway, after all the replacement, i picked it up last saturday.
So, why am i writing? Grrrr - the stupid MAC kept shutting down (kernel panic) AGAIN - but during login. Went to the Mac store again and had one of those GENIUS look at it. On Friday, they ran a diagnostic test, however they found nothing wrong with the software. And because they couldnt reproduce the problem..(kernel panic) they didnt know what was wrong with it. So, i lugged it all the way home.
Today, Charles started it up, and it went into kernel panic again - YAY - im cheering cos i took the machine like that to the GENIUS. She pinned the problem down to the "EXTRA RAM" that came with the computer. Apparently, the RAM that came with the MAC isnt an APPLE MAC certified PRODUCT! GRRRR wat does that mean? It means we got RIPPED off somewhere along the way. She took out the extra RAM and said the computer should work properly - FINGERS CROSS, or else it definitely was an APPLE FAULTY PRODUCT!
Charles has emailed the company/ store that we bought the MAC from, complaining about the faulty uncertified RAM. Lets see what they will do...
UPDATE...15th NOV - it wasnt the extra RAM! keke they have now officially taken it in for CHECKUP and repairs...they probably put in a screwed Motherboard or Logic board... no MAC for 2 weeks folkies... have now taken over Charles's TOSHIBA! YAY!!!
